Kathmandu tops global air pollution index

APRIL 9, KATHMANDU – Kathmandu Valley continues to top the global list of cities with the worst air quality, according to the Air Quality Index (AQI) measurement taken at 6:15 am on Wednesday.

As per the latest data, Kathmandu recorded an AQI of 216, placing it in the “unhealthy” category. Following closely behind are India’s capital, Delhi, with an AQI of 180, and Kampala, Uganda, with 157.

Medical professionals have warned that Kathmandu’s air quality has reached levels that pose serious health risks.

The Ministry of Health has issued an advisory urging citizens to take precautions, noting that Nepal’s air ranks among the most hazardous globally.
