Heavy rain and thunderstorms hit Dubai

2 May, Dubai – Abu Dhabi and Dubai were both struck by heavy rain and thunderstorms in the early hours of Thursday morning. Residents of Dubai were startled awake by strong winds, thunder, and lightning around 3 am, catching many off guard as it arrived earlier than predicted by the weather forecast.

Although the intensity of the rain subsided around 4:30 am, forecasts suggest varying degrees of rainfall throughout the day.

The Met office responded by issuing an amber alert, signifying that rain-laden clouds had blanketed most parts of the country. The heavy rainfall initially hit areas such as Al Dhafra and Al Sila, situated far west of Abu Dhabi, shortly before midnight.

The National Center of Meteorology has asked residents to follow safety measures during rainy conditions.
